  1. A diver dives 47 feet below the surface of the water and then rises 12 ft. Find the diver’s depth.
  2. On two football plays, a team gains 8 yd, and then loses 5 yd. Find the result of the two plays.
  3. The temperature at 6 A.M. is -6 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature rises 13 degrees Fahrenheit by noon. Find the temperature at noon.
  4. The balance sheet of a student-run company shows a loss the first week of $38. In the next three weeks, the company shows a loss of $39, a profit of $97, and a loss of $12. Could the students continue with their company?
  5. Diarra needs to know how much money is in her apartment rental account. At the beginning of the moth, she had $1200 in the account. During the month, she credited a rental payment of $240, debited $80 to fix a leak, paid $273 to replace a heater, and received another rental payment of $264. How much money is in her account at the end of the month?
  6. You and three friends bought a pizza. You paid $2.30 for your share (¼ of the pizza). Let p be the cost of the pizza.
